The title of this article sums up the basic necessity to start earning money – and that is money to start with. It is quite ironic to talk about spending money to earn money, but that’s the deal. You cannot start a business out of thin air. That is why the capital is one of, if not the, most important factor to consider if you are going to start a business. One obvious answer is business loans. In most countries, their government can grant business loans to help those passionate entrepreneurs with little start-up money to proceed with their business in mind. There are also agencies and companies that grant the same type of loan. But for most cases, some find “loan” a kind of a “debt” that they need to pay with their supposed profit.

So are there alternative means to find money for businesses? Here are some tips for you!

Start part-time. You have to take into consideration that since your business is still starting, it is still not stable. Start your business slow, and don’t quit your day job, as this is where you will get most expenses that you need to fuel your new endeavour. Once you believe that your business is steadily growing, you can decide whether to quit your regular or day job. Or;

Get a part-time job. Working part-time is a good way to get supplementary funding both for personal and business expense.

Start at home. You can save money by starting home-based. This way, you don’t have to worry about added expenses, like office space and utility bills.

Gather your connections. It’s amazing how your network of friends or former officemates can become your network when starting your business. They can be a source for more people to market and even for funding!

Maintain a simple lifestyle. Living frugally does not necessarily mean not eating at all or buying everything using your coupons. A simple lifestyle can help you spend a few hundred dollars per month – and this is big help for your part-time business.

Try these: You can make your own coffee instead of drinking at Starbucks or other coffee shops. You can cook your own food instead of ordering or eating out – this is much healthier too! If your destination is near enough, why not walk or ride a bike instead of hailing a cab?

Borrow from your family or friends. The good thing about borrowing money from family or friends is that usually, they do not add interest! They would usually settle for free items and services. The downside – you might find yourself stuck with them even when you want to break free; you have to stay friends with your friends.

As they say, “Great things start from small beginnings”, and a business venture is no different – even Microsoft and Disney started in the garage! Also understand that like in most things, you will experience hitting rock bottom. So start slow, pick up the pace, and who knows? You may be the next, best-earning entrepreneur!
